The following chart shows WAMC, Inc. chairman and executive director Alan S. Chartock's WAMC pay hikes each year, from fiscal 1989 up to and including fiscal 1999, as reported by WAMC to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.

Mr. Chartock's pay hikes averaged an increase of 13% each year, every year above the preceding year's pay.

For the fiscal years 1989 to 1994, WAMC reported that Mr. Chartock received remuneration under the category entitled: 'Expense account and other allowances'.  The figures shown above for those years reflect this extra income.  Please note that returns filed from 1994 to 1999, report the answer "NONE" under the 'Expense account ....' category.  (At this writing, it is not known whether returns filed for fiscal years 1995 and 1996 reported remuneration in this category or reported "NONE".)

All pay figures displayed above reflect Mr. Chartock's employee 'compensation' plus 'contributions to employee benefit plans and deferred compensation'.

The figures reported above do not include Mr. Chartock's annual compensation and employee benefits from The State University of New York where during the same time period he has been employed as a full-time professor of political communication.

All percentages shown above are calculated using WAMC's reported figures, then rounded-off to the nearest one-tenth percent.)

Fiscal data contained in this article is taken from WAMC, Inc.'s IRS Form 990 - Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax - for fiscal years 1999, 1998, 1997, ------, ------, 1994, 1993, 1992, 1991, 1990, and 1989, tax period beginning July 1st and ending June 30th.  Fiscal years 1996 and 1995 were not available at time of publication so pay figures for those years have been estimated via numerical extrapolation using known figures reported for fiscal 1997 and fiscal 1994.

WAMC's IRS Form 990 may be obtained from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).  By federal law, it is also available for public inspection at the offices of WAMC Northeast Public Radio, Inc. at 318 Central Avenue, Albany, New York during regular business hours, and without advance notice.
